HubSpot ChatGPT Connector: Setup, CRM Updates & Fixes
The HubSpot connector lets ChatGPT work with supported CRM context and perform supported record actions. A successful connection is only the first step: the right HubSpot account, granted data access and available write actions must all match the task. This guide takes you from choosing the official app to checking a first CRM change, then diagnosing read-only access and reauthorization problems.
HubSpot app, Breeze or remote MCP: which connection do you need?
For a conversation inside ChatGPT, begin with HubSpot’s official app. Do not start a custom OAuth project merely because a search result mentions MCP.
Official HubSpot connector for ChatGPT
This is the ready-made route for asking about HubSpot context and using supported actions from a ChatGPT conversation. HubSpot also calls it the HubSpot app; those names do not describe two different products.

Remote HubSpot MCP server
A custom AI integration can connect to https://mcp.hubspot.com using a configured connector and OAuth with PKCE. This is a development route with its own setup and documentation.
Developer MCP server
The separate developer server helps build apps and CMS assets locally. It is not the default installation route for someone who simply wants to manage a CRM record in ChatGPT.

Breeze is HubSpot’s in-product AI environment. For the broader buying decision, editions and pricing, use our HubSpot review. For advertising campaigns, use the separate ChatGPT Ads guide. This page focuses on the official connector’s CRM workflow.
Product context: HubSpot’s connector overview.
What do you need before connecting HubSpot to ChatGPT?
Check the following separately. An app can be listed without the intended account being authorized, and a working read request does not establish that a write request is available.
- The intended account: choose the HubSpot account containing the records you need, especially if you work across clients or test accounts.
- Available app access: ChatGPT availability depends on the app, plan, region, interface and workspace. Installation alone is not proof that every action is enabled.
- Provider authorization: review the account and access granted during connection.

Who approves HubSpot app access?
HubSpot separates approval, installation access and optional data permissions. Its app-governance documentation assigns these controls to a Super Admin. Required app permissions cannot be switched off; optional ones can be restricted. The connector’s own installation rules also recognize eligible users with App Marketplace Access.

Our practical recommendation is to name the person responsible for each side of access. A HubSpot administrator and a ChatGPT workspace administrator may have different work to do. Sending the same reconnect request to every user is less useful than identifying which control actually blocks the action.
How to connect the official HubSpot app to ChatGPT
- Find the app in ChatGPT settings. Open the available Apps or Plugins area and locate HubSpot. Follow the connection flow shown for your account.
- Authenticate with the intended HubSpot account. Check the account selected before authorizing access.
- Review the permissions. If access requires an administrator, complete that approval rather than repeatedly retrying the same user connection.
- Return to ChatGPT and start with a read. Select HubSpot when available and request one known record before attempting a change.

Already connected, but still using an older installation?
HubSpot’s write-action announcement describes enabling the updated app for the workspace, then upgrading and reauthenticating individual installations with the necessary permissions. Follow that update flow where offered; do not assume a connector originally installed for research already has the current write access.

Does allowing an action in ChatGPT grant HubSpot permissions?
No. OpenAI distinguishes action approvals from provider access and workspace controls. A setting that allows ChatGPT to perform an available action does not give the connected HubSpot user additional rights.

How to verify your first HubSpot CRM update from ChatGPT
Use one record and one observable change. The following is our proposed acceptance exercise. We have not run it against a connected customer account.
A small, controlled exercise
- Choose a test record you control. Copy its HubSpot record ID and current job-title value. Record which HubSpot account it belongs to.
- Read it through ChatGPT. Ask for the contact matching that ID and compare the returned identity with the CRM. Stop if it is missing or ambiguous.
- Request a preview. Specify only the intended job-title change. Ask for the target record and before/after values, with no other edits.
- Review the actual action. Use the approval controls presented for your account where required. A prompt asking for a preview does not replace permission settings.
- Open the record in HubSpot. Inspect the saved field and check that unrelated values remain as expected.
- Record the result. Keep the target ID, intended value, time and any error. If the result is absent, diagnose before repeating the write.
What counts as success? The intended field on the intended record contains the intended value in HubSpot. A fluent chat response or a connection status alone does not meet that criterion.
For a new-contact exercise instead, use a clearly marked fictional example such as DEMO Alex Rivera and alex.rivera@example.com in a suitable test context. Search first, create only if absent and inspect the resulting record. Do not assume an instruction to avoid duplicates establishes that the connector guarantees duplicate prevention.
This sequence deliberately avoids using a live deal-stage change as the first demonstration. A trivial test should teach you whether identification and write access work before the team relies on a consequential update.
HubSpot connects, but the workflow fails: what should you check?
Start with the symptom. These are diagnostic checks, not a promise that every account has the same cause or fix.
| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| HubSpot is missing or disabled | Check app availability for your account and workspace. Confirm whether an administrator must enable it. A CRM permission change cannot make an unavailable ChatGPT app appear. |
| The expected record is missing | Confirm the connected HubSpot account and whether the user can open that exact record in HubSpot. Retry a precise ID-based read rather than a broad name search. |
| Reading works; updating does not | Separate the user’s HubSpot rights, app data permissions, connection authorization and ChatGPT action controls. Check whether the updated app is enabled. Do not jump straight to an account upgrade. |
| Write scopes stay locked after reconnecting | Compare the exact error with the dated reauthorization incident below. Repeated reconnects are not a confirmed universal remedy. |
| A large update request is rejected | Check the operation’s documented limit and the actual action offered. Break a proposed batch into reviewable groups, with a checkpoint between them. |
| ChatGPT reports success, but the CRM looks unchanged | Inspect the exact account, record ID and field. Record the error or returned result before retrying. A retry of a create action can produce a different outcome from a retry of a field update. |
References for these checks: account availability, HubSpot access controls, ChatGPT action controls and connector limitations. The ID-based verification and retry order are our proposed diagnostic method.
Where can you inspect the HubSpot connection?
HubSpot’s Connected Apps area shows connection status and app activity. Its connection insights also expose record-related events. Use the information available in your account to distinguish a connection problem from an action that reached HubSpot but did not produce the expected record state.
Source: connected app status and insights. Do not assume a private-app API counter is a direct measurement of this connector.
Bulk updates, validation rules and object support
Can ChatGPT update more than ten HubSpot records?
HubSpot documents a maximum of ten records per bulk create/update operation. Treat that as an operation limit, not the total size of the CRM. A larger job needs separate controlled operations; it is not evidence that one unlimited request will succeed.
Source: bulk action limit.
Are custom pipeline validation rules enforced?
Keep the integration path explicit. The ChatGPT-specific guide says custom validations are not applied. The remote MCP guide says its CRM writes respect conditional logic, including custom pipeline-stage validations. We cannot resolve that documentation difference into a universal guarantee.
Sources: ChatGPT connector rules and remote MCP write behavior.
For your acceptance check, write down the required fields and permitted transition yourself. Do not test an important pipeline rule by attempting to move a real customer deal into an invalid state. Confirm behavior in an appropriate test context before relying on it.
Does a documented object mean every account can use it?
No. Check your account’s actual entitlement and exposed action. The remote MCP documentation explicitly describes tool availability as dependent on subscription, permissions and configuration. Its developer-side capability check is not a guarantee that the ready-made ChatGPT app offers the same tool labels.
Source: tool availability and account-specific access.
Custom objects deserve particular caution: the ChatGPT guide’s object matrix and later FAQ do not fully agree. This guide’s exercises therefore use core contacts and tasks rather than promising custom-object behavior.

Three HubSpot ChatGPT prompts with a checkable outcome
These are our example prompts, not outputs from a live test. Replace the bracketed placeholders. They specify intent; available actions and permission controls still determine execution.
1. Read an exact contact before changing anything
Using the connected HubSpot account, read contact [CONTACT_RECORD_ID].
Return its ID, name and current job title, with a record link if available.
Do not make changes. If the record is unavailable, explain the access
problem rather than substituting another contact with a similar name.Check: compare the identity and current value directly with HubSpot.
2. Preview one contact-property update
For HubSpot contact [CONTACT_RECORD_ID], prepare a change to job title:
[NEW_JOB_TITLE]. Show the record ID, current value and proposed value.
Do not create a new contact or change any other field.
Stop after the preview so I can review the proposed change.Check: the preview identifies one target and one field. If you proceed using the available controls, verify the saved value in HubSpot afterward.
3. Prepare a follow-up task with an explicit date
Prepare one HubSpot task titled DEMO follow-up, associated with contact
[CONTACT_RECORD_ID], assigned to [CONFIRMED_OWNER]. Use the due date
[YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM] in [TIME_ZONE]. Show the resolved record, owner,
date and time before creation. If any input cannot be resolved,
ask me rather than choosing a substitute.Check: inspect the task’s contact, assignee and due date. A natural-language phrase such as “next Friday” is less useful for a repeatable comparison than an explicit date and time zone.
Keep one log line per exercise: target, intended result, observed result and time. This makes a later permissions change easier to diagnose. It also prevents treating a different result on a different record as a successful repeat of the same test.
What should you send to support if writing still fails?
Prepare a short, reproducible description. Our suggested support packet is:
- the date and time of the attempt, including time zone;
- the app/interface used and whether reads still work;
- the object and action attempted, using redacted identifiers;
- the exact error, correlation ID if shown and a redacted screenshot;
- the permission and reconnect checks already completed;
- whether any change actually appeared in the CRM.
The staff thread specifically requests redacted evidence and correlation information for unresolved cases. The additional structure above is our recommendation for making that report reproducible.
Source: support’s requested evidence.
For a team-wide rollout, agree who owns this check and how you will confirm a fix. Repeating the same single-record exercise after a permission change is more informative than trying an unrelated prompt each time.
If you have not chosen a CRM yet, return to our HubSpot review and buying guide. If the task is choosing software to update a CRM after meetings, use our separate post-call CRM tools comparison.
Method, verification date and scope
This guide is based on HubSpot and OpenAI documentation and a dated HubSpot support response checked October 17, 2026. We did not connect a live HubSpot account, execute the prompts or reproduce the reported incident. The exercise, prompts and verification criteria are our proposed method.
Sources appear next to the claims they support. Conflicting documentation is identified rather than silently reconciled. The page covers the official ChatGPT connector; a custom OAuth implementation, a developer MCP setup, advertising integration and CRM pricing are separate tasks.
