How to send a KoalaWriter draft without publishing it
- Check Connected Accounts in Koala. Confirm the destination site is listed. For a new plugin connection, install and activate Koala AI in WordPress, open its admin menu and confirm the connection. Connection instructions
- Open the completed article and click Create Draft. If you have multiple sites connected, select the intended destination.
- Set Post Status to Draft. Review any saved defaults, especially if you publish to more than one site. If you use the plugin, check the author and post type when those fields matter.
- Click Create Post. Koala uses the selected status when it sends the article. Check for the draft confirmation above the article title, then check the result in WordPress. Koala publishing steps · Publishing options and defaults
Which button sends the article? Create Draft opens the options. Create Post sends the article using the selected status. Select Draft in that window to keep it unpublished for editing.
KoalaWriter says it sent the draft. Where is it in WordPress?
Start on the WordPress site selected in KoalaWriter. For a standard blog post, open Posts → All Posts and search for the title under Draft. If it’s missing, check the destination, content type, status and account access in that order before sending it again. WordPress filters · WordPress missing-content guide
- 1. Destination
- Compare the site selected in Koala with the dashboard you’re viewing. If you have both a staging site and a live site, open the one you selected for the transfer.
- 2. Content type
- Open Pages if you selected Page in the plugin, or the matching admin menu for a custom post type. A page will be absent from the Posts list. Koala post type options
- 3. Status and filters
- Switch to All, clear date and category filters where available, and search by title. If the item appears under Pending Review or Private, open it and confirm the status in the editor. WordPress post filters
- 4. Author and access
- If you selected another author, ask someone with permission to edit that author’s posts to check. With standard WordPress roles, an Editor can manage other users’ posts and an Author can manage their own. WordPress roles and capabilities
If you find the draft, continue editing that item. If you still can’t find it, note the title, destination, time of the attempt and any confirmation or error before troubleshooting. Checking the destination first reduces the chance of creating an extra copy when the first result is unclear.
Why is the image visible in the draft but missing from Media Library?
A WordPress Image block can display a file from an external URL. To confirm an import, look for a matching item under Media → Library. Koala’s automatic import requires the Koala AI plugin and the automatic image import setting in WordPress. WordPress Image block · Koala image import settings
- The image is missing from the article body.
- Open the WordPress draft in the editor and check the expected image block. If the block is there but blank, inspect its source URL before replacing the image.
- The image appears in the editor, but there’s no library item.
- Check that the site is connected through the plugin and that automatic image import is enabled. Verify the library item itself. A different image hostname can also be a CDN used by your site. For an existing post, check Koala’s bulk image import option before resending the article. Import setting · Plugin features
- The file is in the library, but Featured Image is empty.
- Check the Featured Image panel in the post settings. Select the imported file there if needed, or check Koala’s option to assign the first image when sending a new draft through the plugin. WordPress editor settings · Koala featured image option
Koala AI plugin or WordPress REST API?
Both Koala connections support draft status and conversion to Gutenberg blocks. Choose the plugin if you need automatic media import, featured image assignment, or author or post type selection in Koala. Choose the REST connection if you only need the shared options and can set up a WordPress application password. Koala integration comparison · REST setup

What to check when Create Draft is missing or the transfer returns an error
| What you see | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Create Draft is missing | Open a completed article and check Connected Accounts in Koala. If you use the plugin, check that it is active and connected. Connection instructions |
| 400 or 401 with the Koala AI plugin | Koala associates 400 with a deactivated plugin and 401 with a removed plugin connection. Check activation for 400 and reconnect from the plugin screen if the connection was removed. Koala troubleshooting |
| 404 with the REST connection | Check the WordPress site address, including its installation subdirectory if applicable. Use the site address instead of the login URL. Koala troubleshooting |
| Unexpected response with code 200 | For this specific REST error, check whether the configured hostname redirects between www and non-www. If it does, Koala advises reconnecting with the final hostname. Koala troubleshooting |
| 403 or 429 during transfer | Check server or firewall logs around the time of the request for a block or rate limit. Use the logged request and the host’s guidance to decide what needs changing. Koala troubleshooting |

What to verify on your first WordPress draft
Before sending a batch, use one draft with a distinctive title, a nested list, a link and an image. Use a staging site if you have one. Record the destination, connection method and import settings so someone else can repeat the check. WordPress staging guidance
- Confirm the draft. Find the title in WordPress and check the actual status, post type and author.
- Inspect the blocks and links. Confirm the nested list is editable and links point to the intended destinations. Koala’s August 13, 2026 changelog records a fix to formatted lists sent with Convert to Blocks, so include a nested list in your check if your articles use them. Koala changelog See our guide to adding internal links to existing posts if an older page should link to the new post.
- Check all three image outcomes. Record whether the image appears in the article body, has a matching Media Library item and is assigned as the featured image. If testing an import setting change, use a fresh image and a new draft title so an existing library item can’t mask the result.
