Connect Littlebird to Claude and ChatGPT: MCP Setup & Work Context
Give your AI assistant a way to look up past work without rebuilding the project brief yourself. This guide covers the Littlebird MCP server, connection steps for Claude and ChatGPT, and a practical method for checking the context an assistant retrieves.
Can Claude and ChatGPT access Littlebird work context?
Yes, through Littlebird’s MCP server when your account and AI client permit the connection. The official endpoint is https://mcp.littlebird.ai/mcp. A connected assistant can query Littlebird for relevant past work. It is a retrieval connection, not a promise that every piece of your history appears in every answer.
Official documentation: Littlebird MCP: work context in AI tools.
Build the context you want your assistant to use. Start with a project whose sources you can check, then evaluate the connection against that project.
Explore LittlebirdLittlebird MCP versus Littlebird connectors: which direction do you need?
To ask Claude or ChatGPT about your Littlebird context, add the Littlebird server in that AI client. Adding an external server inside Littlebird solves a different problem: it gives Littlebird access to another tool.
| Your goal | Configure it in | The role of Littlebird |
|---|---|---|
| Ask Claude or ChatGPT about your work | The external AI client | Provides the context tools |
| Give Littlebird another external tool | Littlebird → Integrations → Connectors | Uses another service’s tools |
For the second direction, Littlebird documents Integrations → Connectors → Add custom. For the first, use the client-specific steps below. Check where you are configuring the connection before changing settings: the same acronym can describe opposite directions.
Official documentation: Littlebird integrations and custom connectors.
What do you need before connecting Littlebird?
Separate three checks: the Littlebird account that holds the information, your ability to add a custom connection in the AI client, and whether that account actually contains useful project context. A successful authorization does not establish that the document you remember is available.
Littlebird’s pricing page lists MCP under Plus. Its MCP feature page also names Plus near the top, but its FAQ still says Power. Check the access shown in your account before upgrading specifically for this feature. For the full subscription decision, use our Littlebird review and pricing overview.

Choose one known project and verify its material in Littlebird first. Context Awareness reads supported content from the active application; it is not a universal index of every file or background window on your computer. Connected accounts provide additional sources, with their own permissions.

How to connect Littlebird to Claude
Use Claude’s remote custom-connector controls. The current individual-account guide uses Customize → Connectors; Littlebird’s own guide refers to Settings → Connectors. Look for the connector controls in your current client.
- Select + Add → Add custom connector and name it Littlebird.
- Enter
https://mcp.littlebird.ai/mcp. - Review the detected authentication settings and complete the Littlebird sign-in.
- Finish adding the connector.
- In your conversation, open + → Connectors and enable Littlebird.
Claude documents remote custom connectors on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, with one custom connector on Free. Littlebird access is a separate requirement. Organization accounts can require an owner to add the connector before members connect individually.
Official documentation: Claude: remote custom connectors.
Do you need to edit Claude Desktop’s JSON configuration?
Not for this remote connection. Use the connector interface. A local MCP configuration file is a different mechanism. Claude’s remote connection originates from Anthropic’s infrastructure, including when you use Claude Desktop.
How to connect Littlebird to ChatGPT
The current OpenAI procedure adds a custom MCP server as a plugin on ChatGPT’s web interface. Account and workspace restrictions apply.
- Open ChatGPT Plugins.
- Select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
- Name the connection Littlebird and enter
https://mcp.littlebird.ai/mcpas the server URL. - Configure the authentication requested for the connection and complete the Littlebird authorization.
- Review the connection notice and choose Create as a plugin.
- Install the resulting plugin.
- In a new conversation, type @ and select Littlebird.
Littlebird’s guide still describes Settings → Connectors → Advanced → Developer mode. That differs from the current OpenAI instructions checked October 8. Follow the controls available to your account; if the custom-server option is missing, check account or workspace availability before repeatedly reconnecting Littlebird.
Official documentation: OpenAI: add a custom MCP server.
For a first check, ask a narrow question whose answer you already know. Inspect the tool result as well as the assistant’s final prose. OpenAI’s testing guide recommends checking selected tools, arguments, returned results and errors; it also documents refreshing a custom connection and starting a new conversation after changes.

What can a connected assistant retrieve or change?
The documented connection includes both retrieval and some write operations. Review the actual tools exposed in your authenticated connection rather than assuming that every native Littlebird feature is available externally.
| Capability | Documented operation | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Work context | Search context; add text | Available sources and the submitted text |
| Meetings | Find meetings; read summaries or transcripts | Retrieved meeting and account access |
| Routines | List, create, update; read reports | Whether the request makes a change |
| Account | Check subscription status | The account actually authorized |

A useful practical boundary: finding project information and sending something to a third-party service are separate operations. A request such as “find the decision and update the CRM” needs an appropriate action tool as well as evidence for the update. Check both before approving a change.
Does MCP become ChatGPT or Claude’s native memory?
Treat Littlebird as an external source to query. Ask the assistant to retrieve evidence before drafting. In a later conversation, name the source and task again rather than assuming a previous lookup supplied every detail the new answer needs.

Use Littlebird context to reconstruct a project decision
The following is an illustrative workflow, not a completed account test. Imagine that an initial scope was discussed in a call, a document later changed it, and a recent message clarified a deadline. A useful answer should explain which version is current and where the evidence came from.
1. Find the relevant material before asking for a conclusion
Use Littlebird to find context about Project Atlas from October 1–7. Identify the available sources and their dates. Separate material about the current delivery scope from background discussion. If you cannot retrieve a source, say so.
Replace the invented project name and dates with your own. Start with an identifiable document or discussion. A project nickname, participant and approximate period often make your intended task clearer than “what did we decide?”
2. Compare decisions without silently merging conflicting sources
Using the retrieved Atlas context, explain the latest supported delivery scope. For each conclusion, identify its source and date when available. List contradictions separately. Do not turn a proposed change into an approved decision.
Check the evidence for each important claim. A later document might supersede an earlier call, but only if the material supports that interpretation. Missing dates or unclear ownership should remain visible in the answer.
3. Draft from the checked context
Draft a short internal project brief from the confirmed findings. Include the current scope, open questions and decisions requiring confirmation. Do not send it, change a record or create a routine.
This sequence makes the result reviewable: retrieve, resolve, then draft. It also helps distinguish an unhelpful answer caused by missing material from one caused by a vague request. Test with sources you can independently inspect before relying on the workflow for an unfamiliar project.
Littlebird MCP not working: diagnose the right layer
Distinguish a failed connection, an unused tool and an empty search result. They can produce similar-looking answers while requiring different checks. Use the table below as a diagnostic sequence, not as a claim that every failure has the same cause.
| What you see | First check | Useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| No custom-connection option | AI-client account and workspace controls | Check the client’s current setup guide |
| Authorization fails | Exact endpoint and sign-in account | Read the authentication error before retrying |
| A generic answer with no context | Whether Littlebird was selected and called | Ask for one known source explicitly |
| The tool returns no matching material | Whether the source exists in Littlebird | Narrow the project, date and subject |
| Some sources are missing | Account, availability and scope | Check each missing source independently |
| A proposed action cannot run | Available action tools and permissions | Separate the lookup from the requested change |
For missing screen-derived context, check whether Context Awareness was active and whether the relevant application was readable. Littlebird’s Context Awareness guide includes a Google Docs accessibility setting that can improve capture. Fixing a connection does not by itself create previously missing source material.
Official documentation: Littlebird Context Awareness.
After changing ChatGPT connection metadata, refresh the connection and begin a new conversation. Repeat the same narrow request so that you can compare the result rather than changing the question and the configuration at the same time.
Official documentation: OpenAI: connect and test a plugin.
Permissions: what should you verify before using work context?
A project name in your prompt is a search instruction, not proof of an access boundary. Littlebird’s native Projects documentation describes configurable context sources and says other-project chats and meeting notes are unavailable by default in project chats. That does not establish how every external MCP retrieval applies those native project settings.
Official documentation: Littlebird Projects and native context settings.
For a multi-client workflow, check the context returned for the account you authorized. Confirm that the result belongs to the intended project. When different client or account policies apply, evaluate them separately rather than assuming that a successful connection in one assistant validates the other.
Are Assistant Notes and past chats the same as MCP context?
Littlebird separately documents user-editable Assistant Notes and Custom Instructions. Those native-app features should not be treated as proof that an external connection exposes every chat or imports the full history from another assistant.
Official documentation: Littlebird Assistant Notes.
When you want to add material through the connection, review the text being submitted and distinguish that write from a lookup. Authorize a specific change only after its destination and content are clear.
Littlebird MCP setup FAQ
What is the Littlebird MCP server URL?
The official endpoint is https://mcp.littlebird.ai/mcp. Enter it as the server address in the AI client.
Can Claude search Littlebird work context?
Yes, with an authorized, enabled connection and suitable account access. Ask for the relevant context and check the returned sources.
Can ChatGPT use Littlebird MCP?
Yes, where the account supports a custom MCP connection. The current web setup adds and installs a plugin, which you select in the conversation.
Does connecting Littlebird import every ChatGPT or Claude conversation?
No automatic full-history import is established by the connection. Adding selected text and searching existing context are different operations.
Is Littlebird MCP read-only?
No. Documented capabilities include adding context and creating or updating Routines, as well as retrieval. Check the enabled tools before requesting changes.
Why does the assistant answer without my Littlebird context?
Check the authorized account, whether Littlebird is selected in the conversation, the tool result and whether the material exists in Littlebird. Ask a narrow retrieval question before requesting a draft.
Does a Littlebird Project restrict every external MCP search?
The native Projects documentation does not establish that guarantee for external clients. Verify the scope of the tools and the actual returned material.
Test a context lookup you can verify. Choose one real project, connect your preferred assistant and inspect the evidence it retrieves before expanding the workflow.
